I wrote this set of questions 7 years ago without any expectations and any clue of what answers I’d be getting from my boys, who were then aged 7 and 5. My intent then was to simply capture their lovely innocence and wit, and to be able to read it back to them one day in the future to remind them of what they valued during their childhood, how much I love them and how happy and blessed they made me feel.
One fine Saturday morning, in separate conversations with Keith 7, Seth 5 (4th April 2009)
- What does Mommy always tell you?
K: “I love you”
S: “I love you” and “You are my baby forever”
- What makes Mommy happy?
K: Staying with us when there’s no office.
S: Having tickle fights 🙂
- What makes Mommy sad?
K: Going away to some places without the family for work.
S: When I frown at you.
- How does Mommy make you laugh?
K: Tickle fights, but you didn’t keep your promise of tickle fight last night…
Me: “How about this morning?! tickle hihi tickle hihi

- If Mommy was a cartoon character, who would she be?

Most of my friends were hoping for Orly and I to try for another child. They said it would be nice to have a girl, a litlle Donna. I certainly wonder how she’ll look like, what type of identical dresses we can wear. I imagine braiding her hair just like how my mom does it to me almost every morning for school, shopping with her without minding the time, playing with Barbie dolls and watching Frozen together, sharing my make-up kit with her and the list goes on and on….
But every time I look at my 2 gorgeous boys, I just can’t help but agree with Orly that two is enough. Yes, Keith and Seth are MORE than enough blessings in my life.
Last night, after reading this note again after a long while, I felt so much joy in my heart. No other eyes and words can make me feel so special and loved than my own kids’. I went to their bedroom and spent a few minutes with them doing the thing we enjoyed the most – yes, we had a pillow and tickle fight!! It has been a pleasant surprise not just for them but also for me. I reckon there’ll be more frequent tickle fights in the house from now on. They might need me less and less in their lives day by day, but I hope and pray that they remember me as a friend and that I be reminded to remain as a friend to them despite the different challenges of raising teenage boys.
